Social Club by Martin Brudnizki in Los Angeles (7)

Based in London and New York City, Martin Brudnizki has created many well-known interiors around the world. Specialized in restaurants, bars, hotels, and private clubs, Brudnizki has been described as “one of the best restaurant and hotel designers of his generation”.

Featuring a sexy restaurant and bar inside, The Britely opened its doors on April 2, unveiling a new social club that transcends both time and place. The new club in Los Angeles also features a rooftop lounge equipped with poolside seating and amazing views of the skyline.

“For me to be able to design something as abstract as that, I needed to find and build a narrative: What is hyper-glamorous in West Hollywood? Of course, it was Hollywood itself, the film industry, and those incredibly evocative images that came through during the late 1940s and ’50s.”

Brudnizki sheathed the rooms in a high-gloss lacquer and gilded the ceilings with mirrored accents, in order to give the indoor restaurant a cinematic quality.

“The reason we picked the pink walls is that the reflection of that color will make everyone look 2o years younger.”

– Martin Brudnizki

Martin Brudnizki was able to give the room sparkle and shine by swathing the space in reflective materials and bouncing the light from the custom fixtures around the space. Designed to offer the illusion of a starlet’s vanity mirror, the main bar has two dramatic chandeliers looking like they are almost on top of the marble countertop.

“Through light, you can change the mood of any interior.”

A remarkable collection of art can be also found at this new social club. Among them, you can find graphic works by Megan Cotts and Sara Awad. Exuberant House of Hackney wallcoverings create a bold look in other spaces.

The ubiquitous palm print used in one of The Britely’s bathrooms was paired with a heavily veined green marble and brass palm ceiling light.

“I took a different direction and said let’s just amp everything up.”

Offering recreational spaces like a debonair bowling alley and a 24-hour gym, The Britely also has another space for guests to hang out – the rooftop pool court. Martin Brudnizki filled the area with as many plantings as possible and added a soft-colored seating area.

“These light, fresh colors make it relaxed and soft but with a design intent, not making it too bohemian.”

Pops of brass give the gentle atmosphere moments of Tinseltown shine.

“It’s about sparkle and reflection.”
