The Oscars continue their presence in the art world. After the ceremony, this last weekend, the celebration of the art continues and this time there’s a whole Oscar Museum being built. Curious?
The Academy is making their bet, this time in the architecture area. The Oscar Museum construction is almost finished and if all goes as plan, the grand opening will be on the 30th of September 2021.
This Museum will be dedicated to the seventh art and Renzo Piano is the start of the show.
The famous Italian architect was invited to project what will possible become the most famous Museum – and representative- of the Miracle Mile.
The Story Behind the Building
The building where the Museum is being built was a former department store from May Company that later became Saban – in the late 1930’s- and that it’s a perfect representation of Art Déco style that reminds us of the Navy World – in terms of shapes and elements. Renzo Piano says this is the perfect time to honor the building and to bring it to the future.
The project that Renzo Piano has for the building consists of making it into two different buildings that connect. “The new structure has a shape that looks like it’s lifting from the ground. It’s a true journey through the imagination and through time that’s basically what cinema is all about.” Piano says to Elle Decor Italy.
This very special project will count with a very rich collection provided by the Academy that has more than 12 million photos, 237,000 thousand movies and vídeos, 85,000 scripts, and 133,000 pieces of art.
It’s a true experience and a Museum that you will want to have on your checklist.
