After finishing his architecture studies, at the École Spécial d’Architecture de Paris, and at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, the young designer started to collaborate with Riccardo Blumer. The peer influenced him in such way that Marco Lavit Nicora became obsessed with object design, and with the Paris-based studio, the LAN Architecture.

Back in 2014, the young Rising Star founded his very own atelier in Paris, the Atelier Lavit. It is a project that beautifully merges Italian and French design, and it’s mostly focused in his field of studies, and probably his favourite subject, architecture. Marco Lavit Nicora‘s work is entirely founded in the trust he confides to his artisans, with whom he constantly dialogues. He’s quite biased on Italian artisans, as he always favoured his fellow countrymen’s craftsmanship.

In the very same year, the young designer unveiled a new version of one of his most acclaimed pieces, the Venezia Lounge Chair. The chair is a metal structure meticulously clad in leather, and it was designed especially for the Venice Design Biennial, and, afterwards, it was exhibited at the Centre Pompidou, in Paris, during the retrospective exhibition on Le Corbusier.

For Marco Lavit Nicora, a lounge chair is “the most complex piece imaginable to design: because no other type of furniture interacts with the body quite as much, almost like an article of clothing.” In 2017, he also designed a treehouse for the park of the Château de Raray, as well as several floating cabins for a hotel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

“Marco Lavit Nicora is a young talent, heir to a long line of Italian designers who have placed function at the core of their practice and who have learnt to use only the best materials and artisans our country has to offer to achieve that vision. I was especially moved by how light his pieces look, despite the fact that they are deeply anchored in classical design.” – Fashion designer Rosita Missoni
