Italian lighting brand Luceplan has added four new product families to its growing outdoor collection.

This lighting collection merges indoor design sensibilities with durable, weather-resistant materials.

Among the launches is the Fienile outdoor light by Norwegian designer Daniel Rybakken, Alessandro Zambelli’s filigree Flia floor light, as well as the Nui bollard and wall lamp, and the portable Nui mini from Milanese duo Meneghello Paolelli Associati.

Luceplan describes the new lighting launches as “multifunctional, nomadic objects” that would look just as at home in a living room as they would in a garden, with some intended to move between the two and others adapted from indoor designs.

“The new Luceplan outdoor collection is driven by one basic consideration: in contemporary design trends, indoor and outdoor tend to mingle and interact,” said the brand’s CEO Patrizia Vicenzi.

“There are no longer any clear separations or distinctions; there is instead a growing aesthetic and functional osmosis between different lighting settings.”

In recognition of this shift, Rybakken reimagined for Luceplan his Fienile indoor table lamp from 2019 as an outdoor bollard.

Available in two sizes and two different hues of grey, it features the same distinctive shade as its forebear, which was informed by the gabled roof of traditional Norwegian buildings.

Fienile Outdoor is a micro-work of lighting architecture with walls and a pitched roof extruded in a single solid block of coated aluminium, while the diffuser is in polycarbonate,” Luceplan explained.

The Flia range, created by Italian designer Zambelli, is distinguished by its spindly and strong, antenna-like carbon fibre stems, which are topped with miniaturised LED lighting sources.

They can be paired in groups of two or three in three different heights, while a rechargeable version can be carried around like a torch.

Similarly, the Nui mini is a portable, battery-powered table light, which can effortlessly move between different environments thanks to its refined, geometric silhouette.

The lighting features a tubular steel top that can be painted in white, greige or sand, and a curved glass base that reflects the light emanating from above.

In contrast, the regular Nui range includes fixed outdoor floor and wall lamps with a concrete base that can be topped with concrete shades in three different sizes from a flat disk to an elongated cylinder.

According to the brand, the lighting launches are best suited to protected outdoor zones such as private residences, shared gardens and the exterior of hotels or offices, where they can create a seamless transition with the interior space.
